Living in Eastern Canada means four distinct seasons of weather. The transition seasons of fall and spring are my favourite…….the change in temperature and weather is just the tip of the iceberg. The new season means a change in routines, a change in wardrobe, maybe a new jacket and usually a desire to clean the house and change up decor! For me, there is nothing more fulfilling than a good cleaning and decluttering of the house.
My basement houses a collection of wreaths of seasons past. Each year I pull out an old wreath, and revamp it to suit my tastes at the time. Favourite wreaths might get used for more than a single year, but I usually find the sun has faded it, or I have a newer idea to put to the wicker. I often decorate the wreath myself, but occasionally I splurge and enjoy someone else’s creativity.
This year I purchased a new canvas of an egg shaped wicker wreath. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for the bird’s nest I was keeping in the garage. Last fall my husband cut down an old fir tree next to our driveway. It was getting too big, and was starting to look unhealthy, so it had to come down. This birds nest fell out of the tree, and I stored it in the garage all winter, knowing I would find a use for it!
My crafting cupboard has a supply of various finds I pick up over the year, or ribbons I have saved from gifts. Usually I eventually find a use for these things, but sometimes I get in the decluttering mode, and have to purge. It’s human nature I suppose. This day I pulled out my Mod Podge, some twine, scrapbooking paper, and a letter B.
After decoupaging the letter B, I disassembled an old Easter wreath with tired looking Easter eggs. The eggs had the rustic look I was going for, and the colours were neutral, perfect for repurposing.
This project is not one of my favourites, it probably needs a ribbon or some sort of flower or greenery. Nothing in my stash suited me to finish the project. After searching for something to finish it, I decided to hang it on the front door and share it here. After all Easter is almost here. Many projects in my home are evolving…….not quite finished. It seems I prefer to hold out for the perfect touch.
Today was also the day to get rid of the wintery decor items…….well most of them are stored away. A few remain for another day.
