My kitchen cabinets were recently repainted, and it put me in a refresh my kitchen mood. I will usually head to my stash of decor accessories in my basement when this happens. Sometimes it’s a simple change of cushion or throw. Repurposing or refreshing my assessories gives me a fresh look, without adding more “stuff” to my home. With a move to a retirement house in our future, this is especially important.
In my desire to add greenery to my kitchen for spring, I went on the hunt for something I could use as a planter. I found this extra coffee mug, with the lid cracked, and always the last travel mug I would grab for on my way out the door.
After a little Pinterest exploration, I decided I would try nail polish to make a watercolour look. I read several blog posts on this topic, inluding The Whoot. My first attempt failed, but I was able to remove the “mess” with nail polish remover.
Then my daughter stepped in…….she had some experience with doing this to her nails in the past. She quickly took my bowl of warm water, and carefully placed the polish and swirled it around with my wooden skewer.
Then she dipped in mug in the pink colour, and repeated the process with the green. I loved the effect!!
After letting it dry thouroughly, I was able to plant the greenery I picked up at the local nursery. I was so pleased with the results.
I will share my cabinets soon…..
