It’s a beautiful day here, especially warm for June. For me, that meant I was itching to get outside all day long. This afternoon, I decided I’d like to go for a hike before dinner to take some photos and spend some time in the woods. Well, Mother Nature had some other plans for me.
I packed up my camera and a good book and headed out for a trail I had heard many people talk about. Apparently, it was quite short and had some nice waterfalls at the end; perfect for a Sunday afternoon hike.
When I arrived, it took me a while to find the trail head, it wasn’t marked and was a bit overgrown, but I found it! The first thing I encountered was a large puddle spanning the entire trail, with no edges in sight, just perfect. The next thing I encountered was a friendly swarm of mosquitos, a little too friendly in my opinion. Next, I came to a steep hill with a lot of rocks, and, with the way my hike was going, it’s no surprise that I slipped and fell flat on my butt at this point.
After a couple hundred meters, several dozen mosquito bites, and a nice new bruise, I decided that it was time to turn back, this hike wasn’t meant for today.
So, instead of seeing the waterfalls, I returned home for a warm shower to soothe the itch of the bug bites. All this goes to show that sometimes you’ve just got to listen to the signs and change your plans.
Now, I’m curled up on the couch with a cup of tea and my book, I think I’ll enjoy reading here much more than with the mosquitos!
